Sometimes good things are unexpected and happen so fast you don't even have a chance to catch your breath. That was certainly the case with the opening of what I affectionately refer to as "Mini Gifted" at Painted Tree Boutiques in Cary. The opportunity presented itself so out of the blue, but the serendipity of it still has me spinning. Here is the story of Mini Gifted.
I had literally just moved Gifted home from my studio space in Holly Springs. I was ready to be home, stop driving so much and settle into an easier hustle. The last two years had been such chaos, and despite having transitioned to online and the studio successfully, I was still feeling unsettled and disconnected.
Moving home helped, and I was there about a week before I saw a post on the LOHS Facebook Page that lit a familiar spark in my little creative brain. The post was about the opening of Painted Tree Boutiques at Crossroads in Cary. I had heard of Painted Tree before, but did not know one was opening in my area. They are a national chain, and the concept always drew my interest as a boutique owner. Basically, it is a whole big ole store of boutiques. Over 100 of them! Needless to say, I was surprised and very interested in learning more. My daughter calls me impulsive, but I like to think I am a woman of action. So, out of curiosity, I inquired about a space at Painted Tree immediately.
What I learned when I called was that they were almost sold out and the remaining spaces were going very, very fast. They had been selling spaces for weeks and the soft opening was in 2 days. I thought I had missed the boat, and I was bummed that I had not been paying closer attention to opportunities. A decision had to be made fast if I had any shot at a spot. Luckily, that is my specialty! I was willing to take yet another risk with this precious brand of mine. I liked the idea of having a small physical space for my customers to visit that I did not have to manage daily. Painted Tree is fully staffed and they handle all the admin of boutique-ing. It is the best of both worlds for me and my particular entrepreneurial style. A creative space but I still work from home? Yes, please! I signed the contract, and it was a go. All in one day. One single day, lol. Maybe my daughter is right :)
Over the next 10 days I hustled HARD to build the idea and inventory for Mini Gifted. I had to separate its inventory from my online inventory, add everything to a new system and sticker everything. Not to mention planning the space, digging out fixtures and display pieces, staring at my furniture in storage deciding what will make the cut and a hundred other things. I am a very efficient person, but this was a huge undertaking even for me. It felt endless and so tedious honestly, but I really wanted this to be an awesome space. By the end of the week, I was surrounded by boxes and bins of Mini Gifted cuteness. I was ready to build it!
I signed the contract for Painted Tree on February 3rd, and I moved it all in on the 16th. Less than two weeks. Can I get a freaking gold star or what?! It was a whirlwind, but I finally feel a sense of calm for the first time in a long time. Despite its rapid entry into the picture, Painted Tree happened at the perfect time for me. I'm working from home, or where ever I end up with my laptop, but I have this little space in the world that I curate, visit and share with you. I feel like I am part of a community, one of my trusted former employees and dear friends works there now and I am happily planning merchandising changes in my brain again. It all worked out so beautifully. I know a lot of that is hard work and a willingness to try something new, but I think the universe was on my side this time.
You can still shop Gifted online and send cute gift boxes to your besties, but now there is also a place for you to visit if you want to shop in person. You can visit Mini Gifted at booth B19 of Painted Tree Boutiques located at 240 Crossroads Blvd in Cary. I hope you love it and find a sweet gift for yourself or one of your favorite people.
